Day 83 – 9 May 2014
Last night’s presentation to the Three Towns Area Action Partnership wasn’t the scintillating end to the day that I had hoped for. I didn’t feel that I was on top form perhaps I was a little tired. It was their annual general meeting and so I had to sit through an hour and a half of business before I appeared on the agenda. I did get some good questions though and a couple of nice comments. Despite visiting the Pagoda (as it is known locally rather romantically) on many occasions, it was the first time that I had been in the council chamber in Crook Civic Centre. It was quite pleasant although the acoustics were not great. There’s another one off my bucket list.
Yesterday I ended up criss-crossing the region and racked up over one hundred and fifty miles. It was like the old days when I used to work for Spicers where I would do a hundred on a quiet day. Today I went from the ridiculous to the sublime with a meeting in the morning at Northumberland County Hall, just round the corner. It was pouring with rain when I left home and so a short trip avoiding the Metro Centre was welcome. I did get stuck behind two grass cutting machines and so I was a minute later than expected. Total gridlock!
In the afternoon I had a few things to sort out including finishing off the slides for this round of presentations which start again on Monday. I’m up to thirty eight slides and still need a couple more. They look a bit wordy with lots of information and so Bob and I will probably have to skip though them. Why is it that I’m always waiting until the last minute to be able to finish these off?
I also managed to get around to finishing off a few tasks that I kept putting off such as an update from the last Strategic ICT Group and a rework of the ICT Strategy. Things have been a little hectic as of late and I finally feel like I’m getting back on top. Oh look, another weekend.
Learning points for today: Super systems don’t work; grand solutions solve nothing; I must stop saying we need to eat our own dog food; we do need to eat our dog food and; people still manage to complain even when you give them what they want.
Today’s enjoyment rating 8/10 – only because I had to do those things which I had been avoiding (make it a 9/10 as no driving).
