Day 21 – 31 January 2014
Ah well, that’s it over, the longest month of the year. I’ve made it to payday. It seems like a long time as it was 42 days ago that payroll last graced my bank account. I know it shouldn’t make a difference but January is dark and busy and there is not much cheer after the Christmas break.
Today however has been one of those rare days where circumstances conspire to create an almost free day. I was due to go and visit Virgin Money’s operations in Newcastle as part of a series of events laid on by the Institute of Customer Service (ICS) but for one reason or another it got cancelled. It’s a good job I asked otherwise I would have appeared very lonely and very stupid had I turned up.
I’ve been a member of the ICS for several years (a gold member no less) which reflects my passion for customer service. ICT Services along with our Customer Services team became members a couple of years back to send a clear message to our people and customers that we are taking this seriously. Their events are well worth attending as like-minded people give us an update on their own activities.
But again by a strange twist of fate the Chief Executive and Regional Director of the Institute were in the region and so I took the opportunity to meet up with them in the grandeur of the Royal Station Hotel. We shared ideas, swapped stories and I left with lots of thinking to do about ICT Services and its relations with its customers.
In the afternoon I caught up on all my administration, wrote a few reports and a presentation for next week.
So that’s it, my first month of this blog over. Only another 11 to go. I’ve noticed it get gradually busier as the days have gone by yet I feel that I have managed to stay on track. As for my resolutions the only one I am worried about is my book which has stalled at 48,000 words
Learning points for today: Always check that meetings are on; Always agree exactly where you are going to meet; I’m not sure whether I like herring for lunch and; I still feel a little guilty when working not at work.
Today’s enjoyment rating 8/10
