I’ve been inspired by Rachel Orr, A Head Teacher I have met and a blogger. On 1 January 2013 she set out to write a blog post every day for a year. You can find it here and it is some achievement: 365 days in my shoes.
This year I’m going to try something similar, not a blog every day but instead a blog on each of the days that I am at work: What is interesting, what is good and what I have learnt. I’m determined; indeed it is my resolution, to enjoy every day at work.
So here goes:
Day 1 – 2 January 2014
New house, new baby? Let’s see. I’m not planning any additions to the family but we’re starting the year with a change of building so who knows. Our Schools’ Services has moved from their long term base in Gilesgate to offices and workshops within the Council’s Service Direct building at Meadowfield. So that is where I find myself today. We have a couple of days to get everything straight before trading begins and I thought I would lend a hand.
I started my working life in stores, in the motor trade before moving into office products. It is somewhere that I enjoy and so that’s where I ended up working. I felt at home amongst the pallet trucks and Dexion shelving.
So what have I learnt today? Firstly, I have been reminded that I work with a great set of people (thanks to Anne and Gary who had to put up with me) and secondly that a good tidy up makes the place a million times better. Thirdly that there should be a space for everything and if there’s not then it is high time it went the distance.
And lastly for today, something I recall from the many previous moves that it is not the big things but the little things that trip you up. It’s not the walls or the power supply but it’s the seating arrangements, the missing tape dispenser and where to make the tea and coffee.
It’s certainly going to be interesting getting to work together with our colleagues from Service Direct. All in all a good first day back at work and only another 225 or so to go.
Today’s enjoyment rating 10/10!
