Why you should go to #CyberFest – Managing Cyber Security Risk in the Space Market

Space, it’s the final frontier apparently but did you know that the North East has a thriving space sector? The North East Satellite Applications Centre of Excellence was set up in 2014, to offer opportunities and partnerships to unlock market opportunities. ‘The Centre will ensure the successful commercialisation of new technology and innovations by cementing the UK’s position as a key player in the satellite technology sector.’ You can find out more here: https://sa.catapult.org.uk/north-east/

OK, you won’t see any rockets launching into space from Durham, the opportunity lies instead in businesses exploiting the use of satellite data, technology and applications to gain a competitive advantage in a global market. And what a market! ‘New Space’ is set to double in size by 2030 to almost £500bn driven by an unprecedented demand for data and connectivity, creating opportunities for satellite enabled services, advances in technological innovation and heightened security.

The overarching theme of the centre of excellence is using satellite applications to create a safer world, including sustainable living and climate change, security of supply chains, building resilience in infrastructure and assets, and much, much more. This is where #CyberFest comes in. How can the cyber security sector work with the space sector to support mutual and secure growth?

This event will be held on 15 September from 9:30 – 11:00 at NETPark in Sedgefield, Durham.

After the introduction from Business Durham we will hear from John Bone, Chief Commercial Office, RHEA Group on ‘Building a Cyber Security Centre of excellence for Space.’ John chairs the North East Space Leadership Group which has been recently formed to shape the vision, mission and strategy for the growing space sector in the region.

Ian Gemski, Founder & Director at Tekgem (UK) will then speak about ‘Cyber for offshore processing’ showing the application of cyber security in a real life application. Ian will be followed by a discussion on ‘Getting non space business into space.’

Cyber security has many exciting new fields of application. The space sector is a new and emerging one. Come along to this event to find out more.
All the #CyberFest events are free and tickets are available from here. I hope to see you there.
