A month in lockdown – Z is for zoom

Z2020The A-Z blogging challenge is quite straightforward, blog everyday in April, except Sundays, with subjects that follow the alphabet. It’s all a bit of fun. My subject is ‘A month in lock down’.

Z is for Zoom, the online meeting platform. Although others are available and more established, for some reason Zoom has become the darling of the online world. Nearly every meeting I go to now uses the platform though my own preference is for Google Hangouts.

I hate Zoom!

In truth, it is not just Zoom but all of the platforms. I am sick to death of being in online meetings, staring up people’s nostrils and the ceilings of their spare room. You can’t even escape them by watching television as nearly every news bulletin is from someone’s temporary office. I want to go back to real life where we sat next to each other and engaged.

Having thought about it I have some ideas to make the experience much better and I will put these into another blog, probably next month.

What then of my objectives for this month? In the end I have had surprisingly little time to waste but here is my update: Build a wall in the garden, done and it is looking good; spend a day learning Dutch, I haven’t managed to set a day aside but I have learnt some every day on Duolingo; finish my model of a church, I’ve put a few tiles on the roof but otherwise it is as it was at the beginning of April; watch The Ring Cycle on DVD, I am up to disc 6 of 7. It is really good (even better than that) but 16 hours at a stretch is a bit too much for anyone.

There you have it then, the end of my contribution to this year’s #AtoZChallenge. I hope you enjoyed it and that we won’t be kept indoors for much longer.

Stay safe.
