The A-Z blogging challenge is quite straightforward, blog everyday in April, except Sundays, with subjects that follow the alphabet. It’s all a bit of fun. My subject is ‘A month in lock down’.
J is for job. Before COVID-19, I had one of those but since the general lockdown my business has gone off a cliff. Like a lot of people I find myself without work and time on my hands. To be fair, I do have some work left, about a day a week even though it is managing to occupy far more time than that.
I don’t fall into that category of employees who are key workers and deemed by the government to be essential. Nor do I fit into the category of people who can work from home. I can work from home but nobody wants what I have to offer. Now most businesses are thinking about survival rather than necessarily planning for a longer term future.
Yet that is where my focus must be. Business will come back one day, it may well be different as it is now but it will come back. Some businesses will disappear and some will come back stronger than ever, it all depends upon how opportunities present themselves.
This is my job then, at least for the next few months, unpaid of course. I need to think about the steps that can be taken to help businesses thrive post virus, offer my services to help them get there and use this as an opportunity to build up a portfolio of goodwill for when money starts to flow again.
As a friend of mine says, givers gain and so this is my strategy. I am offering my help to anyone who needs it ready for the time that my services are in demand again.
Let me know if I can be of help.
Stay safe.
