26 Deadly sins S is for Selfies

A2Z-BADGE-100 [2017]Throughout the month of April, I am using the A-Z blogging challenge to invigorate the seven deadly sins with my suggested twenty six more modern versions.  To sin is not a modern invention, nor is it original.  These days there are so many more ways to be inventive.

S is for selfies.  When did we become so narcissistic?  He fell in love with his own reflection and we have fallen in love with our own image.  Unable to leave the beauty of his reflection, Narcissus lost his will to live.  He stared at his reflection until he died.

In days of yore when you had an instamatic in your hand you had to ask stranger, a passer-by or a friend to take a photo of you.  If you were posh you had a Polaroid, otherwise you’d have to wait weeks for the prints to come back. One day my prints will come was a jaunty melody.

Now you don’t need friends, you can just take pictures of yourself.  The background is no longer of interest as you are the main subject.  Me in front of the Taj Mahal. Me at the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.  Me outside the great library at Alexandria.  Me, me, me.

You can even get a stick for when your arms aren’t long enough.  A selfie stick.  A wand of Narcissus. You can lift the smartphone up high and practice that special pout.

Is anyone really interested in yourself other than you?  The selfie is perhaps the ultimate in vanity.  Expect for the belfie, a selfie but only of your posterior.  Oh dear!

Thou shalt restrict the number of selfies you take.
