Goodbye LinkedIn

It’s that time of year when you try to make sense of  the past and turn your thoughts to the future. I’ve long given up on resolutions but I have been thinking about what life is like as I get further and further away from work. One of the things I have been thinking about is my blog, which was mainly work related.

I’ve been blogging since 2012. I started quite slowly, building up to five blogs a week and as my work days decreased. So did my frequency. I went from five, to three, to two and now, for the last couple of years I have been blogging just once a week, for some reason always on a Tuesday. Yet this has been my second best year in terms of reads. Throughout the thirteen years, apart from the very start when nobody read it, there have only been two days with no views. That’s not too shabby a record yet all things come to pass. There must come a time when I stop blogging.

But what’s this got to do with me retiring? One of the ways that I publish my blog is through LinkedIn, which has been a very useful tool for work. Now that I have left the world of work behind I feel that it is time to leave LinkedIn as well. It is a place where my past resides and my future lies elsewhere. I have made the decision to stop using the application and this will be the last blog that I post through it.

I’m not planning to come off LinkedIn entirely, at least not quite yet, as it is still a useful way of getting in touch with some people but I will stop posting, liking or sharing. I am leaving LinkedIn behind in a state of limbo. I’ve stopped all notifications to my phone.

So what will happen to my blog? Who knows, I know that I don’t. I will keep writing for a while as I enjoy the process and we will see what will happen. It may carry on as normal or it may just wither on the vine. Time will tell but it is certain that one day all will come to pass.

Season’s greetings.
