It can’t be twelve months since the last round of Cyber Local funding, can it? Sure enough, just as the police are looking younger, time is speeding up and the time to apply for funds to run local projects has come and gone.
I’m delighted that CyberNorth has been successful again in this round, with two projects getting the green light (subject to final confirmation). Only two of the UK Cyber Clusters were successful, with our old friends at CyNam in Cheltenham being the other.
We have been awarded additional funding to run a second cyber security innovation centre, led by me, as well as an Influencing the influencer project to help young women and girls into cyber security, led by Danielle. I may well come back to this one.
The latest round of CyberLocal funding from the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) will allow us to run the series of workshops again in early 2025.
Building on our first successful pilot, CyberNorth will be running the Innovation Centre throughout February (13th, 20th) and March (6th, 13th, 20th, 27th). The accelerator programme offers six, full day, incubator style courses. These interactive workshops, covering Product, Customers, Company, Money, People and Meet the buyer, will be delivered by highly regarded professionals in the business support industry. Each will include an opportunity to hear from and engage with cyber security business owners.
The Innovation Centre is for anyone who is 18 or older who would like to develop a product or service in the cyber security sector. It is aimed at businesses at either early stage or pre-startup stage and its maturity can be anywhere from initial concept development or an already incorporated business.
Those in the cohort can be in education, employment or otherwise. As long as the business idea relates to cyber security and you want help either getting off the ground or finding out whether it’s viable, the Innovation Centre is for you!
