Today I got some good news, some news that I had been waiting for for some time, something that my team and I had been working on for months, several months, perhaps even more than a year, no definitely more than a year. We’ve been working really hard on it and had expected the news many times, with many false starts, many false dawns and many disappointments. There was not a day that had passed in the last few months when we haven’t talked about this piece of news, not a moment has passed when we haven’t been thinking about it, longing for it and hoping for it with our fingers and toes crossed. Will today be the day that the good news finally arrives?
But until today, it wasn’t, it was always tomorrow or next week or another day. Another set of dashed hopes, another trip back to the drawing board, another time to regroup, rethink and reapply ourselves, my team and I.
I’d tried to stay calm, even though we were expecting some good news, tried to occupy myself with other things, other diversions, other important things but my mind always came back to the piece of news, the piece of good news that we were hoping for. We’ve been on tenterhooks, we’ve been on edge, we’ve been optimistic and then pessimistic, we’ve been certain that this was the time and then we’ve not been so sure. But every day that passed has meant that we were sure of the fact that that day was not the good news day, unlike today, this great day when the good news finally arrived, the news that we’d all been hoping for.
And now it’s here, the moment has passed, we’ve come out of the darkness and can see the light, the way forward is clear and our uncertainty is behind us, well behind us. Our half-full glasses are filling up to the brim. That’s what good news does for you. We’ve put our doubts behind us because, let’s face it, at times we never thought that the good news would arrive. Today has brought clarity and confidence, the good news has been definitive, unquestionable and irrefutable.
We’ve waited for it for so long but what happens tomorrow? That’s the day after the day that the good news arrived, the day when we have to do something about it, something with it. We have to build on it, develop it, communicate it and comprehend its true meaning. We’ve got to dust off our plans, revise our Gantt charts, our critical paths and get down to the serious business, the business that has been started by the arrival of today’s’ good news.
